Every year in the days around Thanksgiving, we meet family members shopping together for special pieces of jewelry. This year we met several sister groups, mothers and daughters, mothers- and daughters-in-law, and grandmothers and granddaughters. They supported each other beautifully, keeping in mind that jewelry tastes and styles vary (what I like might not be what she likes).
Locals brought out-of-town family and friends to introduce their favorite jewelry store, hoping they will also love HH. We are honored to meet your people! Besties came to see Niessing Colette bracelets, Gellner macrame Pearl bracelets, Georg Spreng rings, Antonio Bernardo earrings, Atelier Zobel rings and cuffs, André Ribeiro hoops, colored stones from Marcel Roelofs, and more. Some went home with what they came for. Others found something unexpected. Some created wish lists. Newcomers left with new ideas about jewelry.
Other family groups happened upon Hamilton Hill as they strolled Brightleaf Square. We heard a few “I can’t believe there’s a place like this in Durham, NC!” comments. Awww shucks, thank you!
A woman solo browsing who had worked long hours around and on Thanksgiving told me of a recently inherited ring (grandmother) that she will likely wear as an engagement ring. She wished for her grandmother but looks forward to having a memory of her on her finger someday soon.
In addition to respect (for each other’s styles), laughter and silliness were also in evidence among the family members. Knowing the challenges of family relationships, this seemed particularly sweet. It’s great to see people having fun selecting beautifully and thoughtfully designed jewelry that will become family heirlooms.
Thanks everyone for your support and friendship. Bring the fam during the holidays and any time!
